I'm Kaihua Yu. This site is a commonplace book — a personal archive where I work through ideas in public.

My background is in actuarial science, but I'm a generalist by temperament. I write about whatever I happen to be thinking through: risk, reasoning under uncertainty, the strange habits of expertise, and the smaller questions in between.

The motto on the masthead — Nullius in verba, the Royal Society's — is the closest thing I have to a creed. Take nobody's word for it. Look at the evidence yourself.
